Items needed:

  • 12 balloons
  • 12 strips of paper
  • 12 easy fast ideas…
  • Easy things found around the house

Your kids will think you are cool.

Take the 12 strips of paper and write ideas on them.  Here are a few:

  1. ‘Paint’ with shaving cream
  2. Have a snowball fight
  3. Eat a cookie
  4. Read a story in front of the fireplace
  5. Have a thumb war
  6. Sing a song
  7. Clean the bedroom (ya have to have one chore in there)
  8. Balloon Volleyball
  9. Drink hot chocolate with marshmallows.  YUM.
  10. Call Grandma and wish her Happy New Years!
  11. Turn on the music and dance like it’s 1999
  12. Tell a favorite memory from 2010 new years countdown

Roll up the strip and place it in the balloon.  Blow that sucker up and tape it to the wall.  Any wall will do…even on the top of family pictures (note: I covered up my kiddo’s pics with balloons.  They thought it was fun to discover who’s picture was under it.) new years countdown

Write on the balloons a time starting at 1 pm and counting down to midnight.   On each hour have the kids pop a balloon and discover the ‘game’.

Note:  **Be careful with the balloons.  They can be a choking hazard for those little one who put things in their mouths.**    I know you know this, but just to sound like your mother I  thought I’d add it! new years countdown

Great idea! Something we did when mine were younger was to set a clock ahead so that midnight would come at 8pm. We’d party with the young ones and then get them settled in bed in time to ring in the new year together.

I wanted to tell you that we did this on New Years Eve with our four boys and some friends and it was so fun that we adults found ourselves kind of hanging around for the balloons to be popped and see what was next! Our kids were a bit older, and we only started it at 6pm, but some of the things we included were – write a song and perform it (and we’ll film it), a scavenger hunt,
make a skit and perform…etc. Brilliant idea of yours! thanks!!

It just dawned on me that my littles understand the celebration tonight and I was searching and searching for fun things, but a lot of ideas required more than I had on hand. Thanks for sharing, I have all of this and am taping balloons up as I type!! THANK YOU!!!

Totally using this idea with my girls tonight! I’m stealing the balloon volleyball for sure, but also throwing in some Kinect dancing, and some Easy-Bake Oven baking. Thanks for a great kid-friendly party idea!
