Go Bananas!
April 13, 2011 by Shelley
Today was the perfect warm Spring day and I couldn’t resist sharing my favorite Summer-time treat any longer. Bananas. No,… I’m not just talking about plain ‘ole bananas. Chocolate Dipped Frozen Bananas. Now I have your attention. Have you had them before too?! I was introduced to frozen bananas at the State Fair, but that only comes around once a year. I crave them far to often, so I’ve taken matters into my own hands and figured out how to make Chocolate Dipped Frozen Bananas.
This creative treat is fun to make, so grab your helpers. I had to tell my helper to ‘get off his banana phone’ and focus.
Make sure your bananas are ripe, but not over-ripe. Cut your bananas in half (or cut off the bottom inch for an adult sized treat) and stick popsicle sticks in the bottom.
Put the bananas in the freezer for at least an hour.
In the meantime, get all of your favorite toppings prepared. We love toffee bits, peanuts, and coconut.
Now the fun part. Dip, Dip, Dip! We use Smuckers Magic Shell, but your banana must be completely frozen for the chocolate to harden. You can also use melted semi-sweet or milk chocolate for dipping.
Are you dying yet? I seriously am having a hard time focusing. I want one. Now.
Put on wax paper and let freeze for another LONG (but worth it) hour.
FYI: This cold treat should basically be guilt free. And feel proud while your kids eat them! It’s BANANAS we are talking about here! Enjoy every last bite!
Ingredients Instructions

YUM! I’m definetly going to try making these! Thanks Shell!
That looks so good…I think I’m going to have to pick up some bananas & Magic Shell….
Yummy! I made these a lot last summer. <3
Sprinkles are great on top of the banana pops as well.
I saw a lot of these wandering around Disneyland last week, in the hands and mostly in the mouths of little and big kids, selling for around $4 “a pop.” Yum!
These look DEEElicious! I’m going to be trying them for sure. And it’s a treat I don’t feel AS guilty eating.
Cute kiddos too.
Cute Shelley! Your little squirt is getting so big! I love your pictures.
My husband tried these at Disneyland and spent all his money on them…now I can make them here! Surprise! Thanks for sharing Shelley!
OMG, I want these right now!
These look so delicious! I am going to make them with my kids over spring break! Thanks for the inspiration! I also plan to link to this post and include a picture in my Sunday 4/17 “Links to Love” post over at momof6.com!
Warmly,
Sharon
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Making these for sure!
Ok whose got good ideas for adding alcohol to a treat like this?
Also-would love to try it dipped in melty peanut butter too. I’d love to share those pics once I get around to doing that! Peanut butter rum bananas? There HAS to be a way!
Put a bit of liqueur in the melted chocolate? Dip in warm peanut butter, and then freeze, and then dip in the flavored chocolate.
Looks yummy!!!!
I need one! Right Now!
I must get to the store before the grandchildren get here so we can make some. Thanks for sharing.
Mmmm…I love chocolate dipped frozen bananas. It also works with yogurt (sprinkled with granola or crushed cereal) with good (but not as yummy as chocolate!) results if you want to feel even less guilty =).
Shelley, you are a genius m’ dear. I am going to have to make some of these with my kidlets. Who cares if it isn’t summer yet! Wink. We Love frozen treats at our house! Thanks for the fun recipe!
These look yummy!!
Oh Yummy! I’m going to make some! You have such cute kids!
Super Idea – we usually buy ours but I love this idea WAY better!! If you get a sec, pop on over to Foodie Friday and link up! Oh, and I found you on The Shabby Chic Cottage.
Great idea. This would be a fun summer treat.
I’d like to invite you to share this recipe on my linky, Sweet Tooth Friday. I hope to see you there. http://alli-n-son.com/2011/04/14/chocolate-birds-nests/
I’m going to make these today, but I’m making my own magic shell. It’s easy-just 1 1/4 c chocolate bar or chocolate chips and 1/2 c coconut oil. Melt together and then allow to cool slightly.
Aw, this takes me back!! When I was little my grandmother used to give us frozen bananas as a treat. My brother and I loved them, and we didn’t even get chocolate on them! ; )
Oh yes!!!! Love chocolate covered bananas. And wouldn’t it be great first dipped in caramel and then chocolate – good golly! Yum!
These would excellent dipped in graham cracker crumbs too! Guess I better go buy a LOT of bananas today!
