So. I have a secret. It’s a bit embarrassing. Don’t tell anyone. I can’t turn on my T.V. A blessing and a curse! We moved over a year and a half ago and I have not turned the thing on. I couldn’t if I wanted too. I’ve tried. We have a TV that has to have a converter box and they didn’t make them user-friendly. So it just sits. Collecting dust. So a love of Hulu, NetFlix, and home videos have kept my family and I entertained. BUT. We have to watch it on our 14-inch laptop. We (my family of six) all sit on the bed comfy cozy as can be until our three-year-old plays steamroller, the seven-year-old can’t get comfortable and our 11-year-old can’t see the movie. Yes, it’s nice to be together as a family, but sometimes a bit of space (even an inch) is nice.

Enter problem solver. 3M™Mobile Projector.

With the handy-dandy 3M projector we can now spread out on the floor or couch and project our 14-inch computer screen onto a 40-inch screen on the ceiling or wall. Come summer we will be using the side of our house! Oh how nice. So the super cool thing. This thing is small. It’s about the size of seven Big Hunk candy bars stacked on top of each other. Note: My little guy can hold it. It’s a fantastic size. Although he did make us a bit seasick as he moved the screen all over the place. BUT it has a place you can mount it to a tripod. 3M was thinking! (Yes, my little guy has fingernail polish. My 11-year-old thought it would be funny to do when mom and dad were on a date. Oh they think they are so funny!) So the next question I am sure is running through your head is: Is it easy to use? Yup. My 11-year-old figured it out without the instructions. I had to peek at the instructions, but let’s not tell her that! What about the projection? It works best in dark areas. It still works when there is light, but the picture is more crisp when it’s dark. It really is a cool thing. We are so planning a family movie night with our family videos. We won’t invite the neighborhood, just our kids. So they can laugh at how silly they are. Good times! So here is some more fantastic info: I used it with ‘i’ items. iPhone and iPad. It will work with PCs (you just need to make sure you get the additional cable) and it’s sold at Target. Love that store! So you want to win one? You want to hold neighborhood movie nights and pass out popcorn in your backyard? Me too. Oh and for a limited time there will be an iTunes $25 Gift Card included with the projector. Get more information here. Cool.

Leave me a comment telling me how your family does movie night and you could win a $150 Target gift card!

We always order pizza first or pick up some of the bake at home ones. We only have one couch in the living room, but we all pile on. After we've eaten our pizza, we pop popcorn and get out our fun individual popcorn tubs that I always pick up in the Target dollar section around the holidays. We make sherbet floats with the indivual tubs of rainbow sherbet and lemon-lime soda. Once we're totally into the movie, our 70-plus lb dog inevitably decides it's time to take back "her" couch, and she climbs right up amidst all the moans and groans (she's squashing us!) and laughter!

Right now Movie night is really "date night" because we have a 2 month old! What I'd like to do as he gets older is how my family did it growing up. WE'd place "orders" of what we each wanted to eat like at a restaurant, be able to eat in the living room (which was a no no at that time) and my dad would make popcorn on the stove with his whirly pop!

We have one chair in the room with the TV and all of the children are gone. Therefore, I don't get to watch TV because I don't like what my husband likes and I hate hearing that huge sigh if I want to change the channel. If we had one and all of the kids back for a family night, I would want some chocolate candy, popcorn, and Coke or Sprite Zero. That would be fun!

We have been doing movie night for about two years now. It is a special event that my children look forward to sharing with me. It happens on any non-school night we are free. They take turns picking the movie and we pop popcorn and all gather in mommy's room for the fun night. The special part is that we get to lay out a blanket and eat in the room which is only allowed on movie night. Also, since Daddy works nights we turn it into a slumber party in my room and that makes is even better!

We have a few options for watching movies as a family, none are very good. We have our laptop, so like you we can watch it all squished together. We have a little tv in our bedroom, but then we have to be ok with kids in our bed. Our regular sized tv is in our basement that is only heated by a wood fire place so it's really cold down there in the winter, so if we want to watch something downstairs we have to cuddle under tons of blankets. My idea for a perfect family movie night is to gather up my nephews and send the parents out on a date. They each pic a movie and draw straws for which movie we watch first. Then they discuss with the winner the best choice to make. I make mini popcorn and candy treat bowls, we cuddle unther the longest, snuggliest blanket we can find and laugh and laugh while each child tells me what is going to happen next. We watch until they all fall asleep on the couch and Mom and DaD come home to navigate them to bed. I get crowned the best Aunt in the whole wide world because I let them stay up late. YAY!

My favorite family movie nights lately have involved lugging our archaic (&huge!) VCR downstairs & hooking it up to our big TV in order to watch our 15+ year-old classic Disney movie collection! This was inspired by my oldest son (college kid) & his girlfriend, who are on a classic Disney kick. It has been so much fun for all of us! & we had totally forgotten the sound of the VCR rewinding a tape!

And then we just have FUN!

Thanks Alison - this 3M projector is fabulous! And now I have another thing to validate to my husband that converting over to Macs (and all things i-) was a smart decision (note: he keeps saying that we wasted of our money on the iMac and the iPad..blah blah, he's not much into the creative side of these great devices but he is a ADVID movie watcher! - now he can watch outside, on vacation, wherever we can bring the iPad and now he has a use for all those digital copies he has been insisting we make sure any DVD/BlueRays we buy have).

Love your blog/site - it continues to make my life easier! :)

Once a week I have "Grandma Wednesday." I round up my grandchildren and we do a fun activity during the day. Splash pads and the children's museum are special treats. At night we put up a tent in the family room and watch a movie on TV ( of course with lots of spilled popcorn) through the door of the tent. Wow, wouldn't it be cool to take the tent outside and watch a movie on the ceiling or the side of the house with a 3M Projector and lots of treats from Target. Grandma Wednesday's could take fun to a whole new level.

Movie night generally consists of a trip to the grocery for snacks and the a triple feature. One is usually really tame and either disneyish, christian or a chick flick(usually the one I pick out), one is usually action(the spouses pick) and the third is usually about vampires, zombies, aliens or the end of the world(I have 3 teens and one tween. They appear to be a morbid generation.) Sometimes I'll ramp up our snacks if it has been awhile(railroad job does not equal consistent Monday through Friday schedule) and make poppers and buffalo chicken dip. Usually I have a six pack of soda for root beer floats or another fun drink. And the rule is that EVERYONE must be present for at least one movie.

The idea of watching the movie on a ceiling is awesome. I'd love to try that.

My 12 yr. old just made her own "movie" with her 8yr. old brother and 5 or 6 other kids from our cul-de-sac. She was the producer and her 10 yr. old friend directed, since they are the only girls in the cul-de-sac. They got to direct all the boys ages 5-11! She used an app with the iPad to make the movie...complete with music and credits! We have been talking about having a cul de sac viewing party, but don't have a projector to show the movie. Then I stumbled upon this giveaway on your site, which I love! Thought it would be awesome to have all the neighbors over one evening, with the movie projected onto our garage door and have a popcorn and candy party! The kids would love it and so would all the parents! The kids have really had fun making their first "movie" and seeing it on the "BIG SCREEN" would be such a thrill for them! School has only been out a couple of weeks, so I'm sure this will not be the last movie they shoot this summer! We could all enjoy many nights of movies under the stars!

P.S. don't know anything about twitter, so can't tweet! :))

While not a traditional "family" movie night, me and my best friends at college love to get together on a night when we aren't bogged down with homework and watch our favorite movies. We usually end up watching a Disney movie (yes we are all children at heart), but sometimes horror movies make the cut and on many occasions the ever popular 'Bridesmaids'. It's usually in my two best friends room and we all gather around and invite basically everyone we know! Pop in some popcorn, as well as passing around the jar of nutella and our movie nights are always a popular get together. It's a nice change from the party scene most other college students spend their time attending. We like quiet nights snuggled on the floor, singing along to our favorite Disney songs =)

We go camping with a group of friends and each family takes snap shots and videos throughout the week. The last day the tetchy boys huddle up and make them all into a slide show with names and little funny sayings. The last evening we all gather for a pot luck at grandmas camp site and watch the camp video together on the lap top! It's so neat to see everyone's different perspectives on similar events and the kids like to add in some parental embarrassing ones too! It would be so awesome to be able to have this to project them on a screen for a real movie night!!!!!
