You can use apple juice instead of water to cook them. This method is SO tasty! Add a tiny bit of brown sugar... and YUM-O!

I love steel cut oats...but when I boil them using 3:1 they end up gloppy (gag). I found a recipe where you put the oats and water in a bowl inside a large crockpot with a few inches of water around the bowl, and it turned out great. I use 2.5 water to 1 of oats and that's about perfect for me.

I do it in an individual size. I boil water and add it to the oats and I put in some craisins then put it in a thermos. It stays warm for hours and the Craisins sweeten it too. So good on a cold day.

Even easier, I put the ingredients in a mini crock pot when I go to bed. Upon awakening, 'tis done! All I have to add is fresh or dried fruit and I am ready to go. Super-easy for working moms! Oatmeal is oh-so-portable.
