How Does She teach her kid about business and finances?
Have you ever thought about what the next million dollar idea is or how you can get your kids to come up with the next million dollar idea? Have you thought about how to teach your kids finances or how to come up with a business plan?
She developed econoME, an amazing program that helps teachers teach kids about finances and about how to become entrepreneurs. The program incorporates finances and entrepreneurial-ism into the every day classroom management routine. She has been working on this program since I was in 6th grade! She has fine tuned it and is now helping other teachers learn how to make their classrooms run like a business.
Students learn how to run a class just like they run a business. They interview for jobs. They become class bankers, mayors, clerks, and learn about salaries and how to spend and how NOT to spend money.
These are some quotes from some students used to describe econoME:
“You learn how to spend your money well.”
“You get paid for your work.”
“You have to pay for rent and you can pay for insurance. econoME is awesome.”
“We learn how to live the real life with money such as how jobs are paid and the needs and wants”
“The jobs we learn to do are paid for them. We have a counsel that helps us stay in control.”
Can you imagine your 4th or 5th grader learning and saying these things?
Most people can’t say this when they graduate from High School!
When I was in Mrs. Evan’s 6th grade class, my brilliant idea was to put a zip-lock on the top of brown sugar bags (the sugar company didn’t do it back then…o I sound old). I thought I was going to be a phenomenal baker (you know how much I love baking;) and I was tired of adding a piece of bread to the bag to soften my brown sugar. I thought I was going to solve huge problems in the baking industry… genius…I know, but the sugar company stole my million dollar idea! Too bad econoME wasn’t in place then to teach me how to sell my idea!
When Michelle told me about this program, I was sold on its’ importance. I was so excited when she told me she figured out how to give 10 away for FREE! She knows how much teachers get paid and wanted to find an alternative funding for her program. She turned to Zion’s Bank. Her program costs $150.00, but through funding by Zion’s Bank (they see the need, of course, for financial education starting in the elementary schools) she was able to work with the bank so they can
Give 10 Away For Free!
You don’t have to be a teacher to win this program…
win it for your child’s teacher!
This would be an over the top teacher appreciation gift!
Just think how fun it will be to watch your child:
Come up with an idea
Make a product
Market the idea
Learn Financing
Feel success!
Go watch the video clip on how it changes the average classroom.
What an amazing real life application. It challenges students to step out of their boundaries and achieve more!
This is what Michelle Evens has to say about her program, “econoME is the perfect match for a fourth, fifth or sixth grade teacher who would like to try a
national and state award-winning classroom management program based on finances. Students thrive in this virtual reality community.
Teachers love it because the students are super motivated to complete their own work and help their classmates do the same. Following the program relieves the teacher from work because students do more, students and parents love it because grades and test scores rise and because it is just plain fun!
The program generates great things that put you and your school in highlights!
I do teach seminars and would be happy to try to coordinate a live session or a phone conference for more details.
So give up to 10 slots away. If they take it, they really need to use it so it’s not wasted.”

econoME was endorsed by the Weber School District Superintendent

WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Maryanne: I’d save it for me since I graduated in Elementary Education. Or I’d give it to one of my friends who are teachers.
Courtney Carpenter: I am a follower of your fabulous blog already!! Oh and I would love to give the EconoME to my college best friend who teaches! Oh and I would use it for my children as well. I know I would have managed my money better if their would have been a program out there way back when!
Kelly G.:I would love to give this to our current teacher. She already does something called bobcat paws which are a sort of money. She could take this to the next level. And the Lucy Loo book looks adorable. I currently follow you on FB already and I love HOW DOES SHE!!! Thanks!
Rebecca:I would use this in my classroom! What a great idea!
Julie@PracticallySpent: The econoME program is interesting. I would approach the principal of our school with it, as it looks like something they would really be able to involve the entire student body with.
Michelle: I really like the special needs stroller. All of the ideas are great though! I would love to win the program to teach my daughter, but also to use with future classes b/c I am a teacher too.
I like both books. I am already a follower.
Shannon:I would give or use to program for our homeschool coop!
Brittaney: What an awesome giveaway! I’m a teacher and I’ve tried implementing this sort of thing in my classroom, but there are always things missing in my plan.
I also love the inventions! Especially the mopping shoes! My mom used to let me put rags under my feet and “mop” the floor while I slid across the kitchen- of course she always had to re-mop once I was finished!
Veronica B:I would like to use this in my own classroom. It seems like a really great program!
Jamie Webb:I would definitely give this to my sister in her homeschool coop. She’s a great teacher!
Winners for the book:
Ginny:I’d love to get the Lucy Loo Dimples the Dip-Doodles book
Ashley:I would love Dear Nikolas! They are both so cute though!!!

Great ideas! I love the cast covers and the special needs baby. Great giveaway!!
I love the kids’ ideas fro products! I also think that the econoME program would be TERRIFIC for the kids at my school/childcare program! It could REALLY impact their thinking, especially in our area.
I love the blog, am already a follower…..
thanks!
The Sassy Sucker holder would be a great way to actually count how many candies one has had throughout the day. ; D
I would gift the EconoME (COOL name by the way) to my daughter’s elementary school. She is the last of my six kids to attend there. She graduates from grade 6 in June. I am kind of sad. It’s been a LONG time with that school. From my oldest daughter right down to my last daughter. Another girl, and three boys in between.
This EconoME gift would be my way of saying thanks for all the hard work and dedication the staff there does. I have seen and be involved with it all. ; D
I would love either of those books. Too cute.
I’m reminding you that I am already a follower. : D
I’m a follower, and those shoes that you mop with great one
Wow! What great ideas! I absolutely love the pencil box sharpener ~ so handy! EconoMe is a fantastic idea and I’d give it to my daughter’s elementary school. I believe it’s important to teach children about finances early and what a great way to share it with an entire school!
My vote goes to the dominoes by design, we would LOVE that in our house and if I am allowed to vote again, well of course I am because I am in charge of typing… I like the mopping shoes. My kids might be a little more willing if they had some of those….maybe I will make some myself…..
also, I am still a HUGE fan/follower! In fact I am 5 foot 11 inches of adoration!
I would give it to my son’s teacher for next year, seeing as how the year is almost over. She could def. use it in the 5th grade.
last but def. not least, I would like the Nikolas book. I have mostly boys and they need to feel special too.
Thanks for the fun, you girls are amazing!
I would vote for the Emilee special needs baby. These kids need to understand that they are not alone and just as black kids need a baby to look like them, so do kids with special needs or health problems.
I already follow your site
I think the book Lucy Loo one would be awesome. Learning that you control your attitude is a fantastic lesson to learn in every situation.
I think I would actually keep the economE program myself since I am considering homeschooling my sons this next year since we will be moving 2-3 times in teh next school year due to the Air Force.
I love the cast covers! How cool and creative is that! -Karen

I told my son’s 5th grade teacher about this program and sent her the link. She, like me, is very excited about this program. If I won, I told her I’d be honored to give it to her class to use this year after Achievement Tests are over! -Karen

My favorite was the Cover Casts Project. When I broke my arm as a kid I would have LOVED to switch up the design!
I would give the econoME program to my brother-in-law who is a middle school principal in Idaho. He would eat this up!
I’m a follower. WAHOO!
I’d like to read the “Lucy Loo Dimples the Dip-Doodles” book. It sound funny!
