“I like any that have to do with family. Great ways to use them. FYI I just got together with 8 of my friends and we made your 2×4 job chart- you are a rockstar here in Houston!”

Amy:

“I’m a brand-new crafter
and I’m hanging from the rafters
’cause I don’t have any tools.
I need some stuff
or it’s gonna be rough
repurposing old footstools.
I found your site,
and to my delight,
I joined your email list.
Now off to the garage
to get my mod-podge
’cause us crafters must persist!
Forgive my horrid poetry. I just started working with paper crafts and I really, really, REALLY need a cutter. Seriously.”

Magali:

“There are 2 things I wanted to do tonight before going to bed:
-find a great cupcake recipe/decoration, and
-look at the differences between cricut and silhouette
What I did tonight:
-found, on your website, which cupcake I will bake for my little girl birthday and how I will decorate them,
- found, on your website again, the link cricut vs silhouette
- and subscribe to your mailing list!!!
All in one, you made my day”

With that package, is there anything else you’d need to buy to get started or use your silhouette? Is there any other software that is needed?

  2. Susie M says:

Oh and also, what’s the home decor CD? I couldn’t find it on their website.

  3. Dixie C. says:

My problem is …anyone wanna but my Cricut?! Hubby would choke if I got another cutting machine (unless I got it for free!). Seriously…anyone?

  4. Dixie C. says:

    I’m a moron…I meant BUY my Cricut!

  5. kelly l says:

is it free shipping? if not, can you please tell me what the shipping is. thanks.

    • Alison says:

I will check into that in the morning. They are out of the office right now, but I will let you know:)

      • Alison says:

This is what I found out on shipping…
“The total amount for the machine depends on everything you are purchasing and where you live, however most of the shipping charges, if you are buying the machine only will range from $8-$12. I hope that helps.”-Silhouette

  6. I just went online and ordered the yearly subscription with the discount. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to download files every month for my Silhouette. I love my cutter!

  7. Casey Johnson says:

GREAT deal making, ladies! I can’t believe you cut the price down by 40%! I saw the Cricut for sale in Costco over Mother’s Day and I was tempted, but I was worried about all the cartridges I’d be tempted to buy and would NEED to be able to do all the crafting. I can’t say enough for how much less expensive the Silhouette system is. Especially in the long run!

    — Does anyone know if you can design your own image in Adobe Illustrator and cut it out? This is a dealmaker/breaker for me….

    • Janina says:

I think you can – I’ve scanned a few images to my comp and have been able to convert them to cut. I think it works the same way with images already on your comp or any you create. There is a tutorial on the Sillouette website on how to convert images for cutting.

  8. My cards are the best! Everyone oohs and ahhhs, and I make them all with my silhouette! I love that I don’t have to buy expensive cartridges to get teh one shape I want, also that I can use all my gazillion fonts on my computer! I love that I can remove the parts of a cut that I don’t want, and that I can use the sketch feature for added impact! Everyone wants to know how I did this or that . . . well, it’s with that swell little silhouette machine!! See the pictures of the “UP!” card I made on my blog!

  9. Kristi says:

I’d love to know about the Illustrator thing, too – that would make it even better.

  10. I am seriously considering buying this machine, but wonder if it will cut felt.

    • Alison says:

I don’t think it can cut felt…double check with Silhouette and let us know!

      • Susie says:

I was wondering about fabric and felt too so i checked. They suggest that you don’t cut fabric with it. Bummer :( That would have been an awesome plus!

        • Tamar says:

It does now! They have a new version out that will cut fabric. Mine won’t (the SD) cut thick stuff, like felt or denim, but will cut the thinner stuff. I’m going to go online and try and see what the difference is… if it’s a sharper blade, I’m SO there…

  11. sue jones says:

wow…that IS amazing! do you know if it’s possible to choose the colors of vinyl you want?

    thanks!

  12. Nicoleskm says:

I love the style of fonts and the FREE fonts. The ability to use Illustrator and cut images is AMAZING!!! I have heard from many respected scrapbookers and card makers that the Silhouette far outshines the Cricut. I am happy I have held off on the Cricut, now I just need to get me a Silhouette!

  13. Becky says:

How do you get everything in the order? Do I just add the Silhouette machine and the code, then everything else comes with it? Or do I need to add all those other things to my cart?

  14. Clare says:

This is such a great deal, it’s making me want to buy another one!!! Honestly, I don’t think you can wrong with the Silhouette. I use it with Corel Draw and it works terrific, but knowing I can download the files so reasonably is a great plus.

  15. Debbie Jo says:

Is this the Silhouette SD that we can order at this fabulous price? I just want to make sure.

  16. This is interesting – I thought there was just the Cricut Expressions… Gonna check this out!

I tried clicking on the links and they seem broken. Can you give the name of the site where I can buy this silhouette sd? Thank you. :)

  19. Barbara Ann says:

Bummer! I am trying to access the Silhouette site via your blog and am getting an error message. I also tried via Google, but it looks like their site is down?!?! Hope their site issues are resolved b4 their promo runs out.

  20. Amalia says:

What happens if I buy the Silhouette because I can’t pass up this incredible deal and then the stars align and all my wishes come true and I win the bless-ed machine???? Can I return the one I may have bought? (Since I really hope I win! – I hope by posting that I might purchase it doesn’t lessen my chances to win!)

  23. Susie says:

If you buy the silhouette now, is there anyway you can also get the subscription at the discounted price or do you have to have the software before you can buy a subscription to their online store? Also does anyone know if it can cut fabric?

  24. Maggie says:

I bought one!!! Just couldn’t wait. I have a pile of projects at home I can’t wait to finish.

  27. Patrish says:

This looks so cool! I love it!

  28. Amber says:

I own a silhouette, but I know I have NOT been using it to it’s full advantage! I’ve only used it a few times. Is there a good source free free images to cut? Could you do a tutorial on how to create files that can be cut? Can you link to the tutorials or posts you’ve done with your silhouette?

  29. I like you on FB now too.

  30. I seriously need some sort of crafting/cutting machine! Sadly, there is just now way our budget has room for something like this. :( I was wondering if there is a way I could sign up or volunteer to try one out; do something like you wonderful ladies did. Test it out, blog about it and give one away. I LOVE to craft, I have 3 little girls that love to craft too! Oh the possibilities with this would be limitless! :) Anyway, just wondering if you could give me any advice. :) Thanks.

  31. Megan Dearing says:

    Hello everyone,
My name is Megan and I’m a military spouse and mom of 2 little boys. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other silhouette giveaways that are taking place soon?!? I have a crafty soul and being that I waited until later in life to go to college and am now a college student my family could really use me putting my talents to use not only for me to have a hobby/stress releaser but also for the financial benefits. I’ve always had a hard time making things and selling them for money because my knowledge behind it was that items I make should just be gifts, well after speaking with a few friends and family, I’m seeing that there is actually a huge industry behind handmade items and I could really thrive off sharing my love for crafts with others. Well enough about my life lol my point is I don’t own any sort of cutter and I would really love to own one, my family just simply can’t afford one and I probably won’t be able to afford one for a long time. For now I have just been printing images off the web and then stenciling them with wax paper and than painstakingly cutting them out of the paper I’m going to use. Anywho if anyone could please tell me any other sort of inside knowledge I would benefit to know and or about any giveaways that are going on, I would appreciate it greatly. I had no idea that they had whole websites full of tons of women in my same boat that just love to talk about crafting :)

    Thanks,
    Meg Dearing
