Ruffled Party Streamers

Ruffled Party Streamers

My twin baby girls turned one this week {whimper, whimper}.  Really.  Why must they grow?!  In celebration of this event, I have been party planning like crazy.  Their party isn’t officially until this weekend, but I have been working hard on the details.  I just had to share these fun ruffled party streamers I made {easy}.  I orginally found this wonderful idea from MyPaperCrane. Ruffled Party Streamers Simply grab two rolls of crepe paper streamers and lay one on top of the other. Ruffled Party Streamers Sew them down the center, pushing gently so they bunch.
Ruffled Party Streamers Turns ordinary streamers into something special.   Ruffled Party Streamers I can’t wait to show you what I am doing with my ruffled party streamers. :)  But you are just going to have to wait…

Ruffled Party Streamers

We are linking up to these wonderful Link Parties.  Thanks for hosting gals!

My hubby teases me about it. But then he says how often do you have twins that turn one?

I’m getting ready for my little girl’s first birthday and have procrastinated (only because it’t birthday season in my house and I’ve already planned 2 little girl birthday parties, a trip to Disney and an anniversary dinner for my parents since April)on gettting it all together. 30. Liz says:

I love this idea…I’ve never really liked crepe paper…(always thought it looked kinda cheap and cheesy), but this is AWESOME!!! I am working on a pool birthday party for my oldest two boys and I am going to do this as a backdrop for the tablescape..(use white, dark blue, and light blue)…I have a quick question for you though…How perfect are you when sewing the paper….I found sometimes it would ruffle really well, others not…plus I’m not the straightest sewer, ahem….Do I need to work harder at it, or will it look fine once it goes up? Thanks in advance for answering my question…I L-O-V-E your blog!
.-= Liz´s last blog ..10 monthsoh how fast time goes =-.

    • Shelley says:

Mine were SOOOOO not perfect. They look great once they are up. Just sew as fast as you can,…some will bunch better than others,…no biggie. promise. :)

  31. Erin says:

A couple of quick questions – did you sew the entire roll of paper and then cut in to long strips? and how and what did you hang from? Doing my neices party saturday and I am working on them now. Thanks:)

    • Shelley says:

Oh boy….I did this project in the middle of the night and it is kind of a blur! ;) I sewed the whole streamer roll and then cut. I used packaging tape to stick it to the wall. I actually hung mine from a ledge which made it easier. Whew,..catch all that?!

  32. Erin says:

One more questions – how many rolls and strips do you think you used to accomplish a full looking background? Thanks again!

    • Shelley says:

Again, kind of a blur,…but I think about 40? Don’t spend a lot of time sewing,…just go fast. The imperfections wont show up. Promise. Just push the streamers through your machine as fast as you can. :) I’d LOVE to see pictures!!!!!

      • stephanie says:

        Hi Shelley,
Working on my ruffled streamers. I have alarge wall and have sewn a lot of streamer. How did you put them together? Did you sew them or just hang side by side? I have been sewing mine together and it is taking hours… Has to be an easier way. HELP!!!
        Thanks,
        Stephanie

        • Shelley says:

I just taped them to the wall (that took a while). Sewing them across the top would be brilliant! Great idea! I put two crepe paper rolls
on top of eachother and pushed them the sewing machine as fast as the machine would let me. I sewed until the rolls were gone and them started on another roll. Don’t worry about imperfections,…you won’t see them. Just go as fast as you can. :) Hope that helps. I want to see pictures!!! :)

  33. Misty says:

Is there any way to buy them already made? Unfortunately, I don’t have a sewing machine and very little extra time. If not, would you consider selling to me? Thanks!

    • Shelley says:

OH boy. Mine are FAR FAR from perfect. They are only about 9′ tall strands too (because I used them for the backdrop on my wall). If you are still interested, email me how many you are wanting and we can work something out. shelley@howdoesshe.com

  34. Misty says:

Thank you Shelley but I found someone willing to lend me their sewing machine so I’m going to try it this weekend. You are such an inspiration to me because I am so far from crafty. I too am a mom of twin girls and a 3 year old boy. I am planning my girls 1st birthday party which will be in 2 months and your blog has inspired me in so many ways. I cannot thank you enough! I’m going with a pink & white cupcake theme. I’m sooo excited!

  35. Cassie says:

I am making these for my daughter’s 1st birthday and I found that if you increase the tension on your sewing machine it will ruffle the streamers for you, all you will have to do is keep the streamers straight! Hope that will save someone out there some time and headache trying to figure it out!
    .-= Cassie´s last blog ..Trick-or-Treat Street =-.

  36. Melanie says:

Ok, so I should have read the instructions and all the comments a little better before starting! I am only using a single strand of streamer, not two. And I will definitely increase the tension on my machine. Hopefully, this will make it go faster!

  37. Katie says:

So, so cute. I just want to make these and hang them all over my house! Unfortunately, I don’t think the hubby will like them as much as I do! ;)

  38. Rachel says:

How do I do the streamer backdrop? So cute!
