Please Remove Your Shoes!

Please Remove Your Shoes
How fun is this! I always feel awkward asking people to take off their shoes when they come inside….now I don’t have to (at least not as much)! This is a Please Remove Your Shoes sign/frame that hangs by my front door and I love it! Just think of all the mud and snow you WON’T have to clean off the carpet:)
1. Just use fun paper and mod podge fun paper onto the frame. Check out Mod Podging tips if you need to know how!
2. Sand around the edges to remove overhang paper and you are finished.
3. Apply your ‘Please Remove Your Shoes’ vinyl. Tell your vinyl lady that the font is ‘Larger Mime’ and it’s 1 inch tall by 8 inches long. ..or use your craft cutting machine. If you need info on vinyl 101 click here
4. I did stain the edges with an oak stain after I put the paper on…I had some in the garage and it worked out! { Love when that happens!}
***stain after you put the vinyl on!!! It works better{I promise!}***
5. Drill 2 holes in the top of the frame (Note: I got glass cut at the local auto glass shop). Make sure to drill before you put in your glass.
6. Push ribbon through the hole. I used a skewer to help push the ribbon through the hole. Hey, it works!
7. Tie a knot with the handle. These cute handles are from a local welder.
8. Place a picture of your children’s feet in it . I also like the saying, ’Please bare your soles!’ I made a bunch of these and gave them to my family. They loved how they got a craft and a picture of our kids! (well their feet, but they loved it)
Another idea to do with this frame: Place a picture of your child in it and put his/her name at the bottom.
Hint: when choosing paper to mod podge use SMALL PRINT (ya, I know I wrote that big, but small print looks the best!) Also, know the color of vinyl you are going to use. If you use a dark vinyl use light paper and light vinyl use dark paper. Easy enough…send pics our way. We want to see what you made!

This is such a great idea! I’ll be featuring!
I love this idea, it would make a great addition to our home, along with a few that would make great gifts for others I know who remove their shoes….
I am always the first to take my shoes off when I walk into a house. I just like not having shoes on… But this is a really cute way to remind those people who aren’t so inclined.
I’m not seeing the glass — duh, it’s clear I know. But did you have a piece cut the size of the entire frame and have holes drilled in it or one that just fit in the opening — or what? Sorry to be so thick. What was the thickness of the glass? Did you have the edges sanded or corners rounded?
The glass just fit in the opening and I to tell you the truth…I just asked the glass company to give me the cheapest glass so, I don’t know the exact thickness. Also, when I’ve ordered they have given me both rounded and straight corners. It’s worked both times!
Thanks!
ALison
I swear, I was JUST thinking about how to tactfully put something up as I was cleaning for our New Year’s party! What a great idea…as always! ; )
I love this! super cute. Will definitely be adding this to my must do crafts list
Waahhh! I miss crafting in your garage Allison!
What a super cute idea though.:)
Wow! I love this idea! Does anyone have this up in their home? Does it actually help people to remember to take their shoes off? I hate asking visitors to take their shoes off! This would be PERFECT!
Thanks for the fun idea!

This is the cutest idea I have ever seen for asking people to remove their shoes! So darling, I’m all about mod podging wood frames with paper:) Cute picture and great gift idea. Thanks for sharing
Love this- so cute! I need more satin ribbon like that rather than all that grossgrain I have. Totally love it!
I want to make one for the doorbell. It never fails someone rings the doorbell while the kids are sleeping!
First of all, I love your blog! I just saw your cute post on the “remove your shoes” which is such a fun idea. I love how you chose to hang it. Anyways, I noticed you had glass cut for it for $1.50. I thought I’d share an idea I have- when I use those frames, I just go to the dollar store and buy any 4×6 frame and use the glass out of it! Once I even got one’s they had on clearance and so I had glass for just 50 cents!
Thanks for your creative blog.

aww, such a cute idea!
What a super cute idea!
Wow, that’s so cute. I love it. Will have to try this soon!
This is an awesome idea! I love pictures of my kids feet and we are a shoeless family. Thanks for the idea. Stopped by from DIY at ASPTL
This is very cute! I love the picture of their feet with your saying.
This is so cute. I love the picture of the feet, too!
Am I the only one who feels uncomfortable with the “please take your shoes off” trend? I would rather spend a little extra time cleaning up if there is some dirt brought in, and let my guests wear what they want! My guests are polite enough to wipe their shoes at the door without a reminder. And, my friends’ presence in my home makes it all worth it! The frame is awfully cute, though…I think I will make one that says, “feel free to stay dressed”.
I totally agree. We area shoeless family to keep our carpets clean, but I would rather my guests feel comfortable and shampoo my carpets once or twice a year.
Forgive me, but in our house the shoeless factor is more for health than anything else. You can reduce the # of toxins brought into your home by taking off your shoes =)
Just fyi =)
Ditto – unfortunately, our 2 kiddos have helped make our carpets not look all that great, but I’d still like to cut down on the number of toxins/pesticides/etc. brought in…particularly since they’re all over the floors all the time!
We for sure are a shoeless family too!! If you plan on entering my home you HAVE to remove your shoes…
As Jennifer stated above about the toxins that are brought in so are countless other germs! How many times have you walked into a public restroom to find many disgusting things on the floor? I know for sure I have even picked up a few sticky (dried urine) things on the bottom of my shoes at the elementary school and there is no way I would want that tracked through my home. So, this is a fantastic idea! Thanks
My friend has a basket of cheap, easy-wash slippers by her front door. Clean pairs are rubber-banded together. When guests come they can remove their shoes and have slippers to wear so they are still comfortable. I think this is great if you are worried about health as well- no athletes foot/plantar warts getting spread.
After your guests leave, you retrieve the worn slippers for washing.
OMG! What a GREAT idea! my in laws REFUSE (yes, you read right, they REFUSE and tell me no) to take off their shoes. I’m doing this ALONG with the picture sign! thanks!
We are a shoeless family and I always ask kids to remove their shoes but I never make adults. Most friends automatically take off their shoes when they see the shoes at the door but I reassure quest that I don’t mind. I agree the guest are more important then the dirt but on the other hand every little bit helps…and kids are so oblivious to where they have been walking. Balance balance balance!!! thats my motto
Just darling. I think the pic of the kids’ feet is my favorite part!
Alright- enough cute links! Can you just be a guest blogger on my blog, please!?! Email me if youre interested and I will let you know which days I have available! I am loving so many of these links!

SUPER CUTE! We’ll be moving soon and our new house has carpet most everywhere compared to our home now where it’s mostly wood flooring and we were wanting a cute way to show our guests to remove their shoes. This is it!! Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial!
I have a friend that has this saying “Remove your shoes, please. It makes cleanup here a breeze.” as a plaque on her front door.
I love this! What a great thing to put in the entryway or mudroom! Great idea!
hi
I love this idea. I;m going to copy if that’s ok? where did you get the wrought iron hooks?
thanks
Jennifer
this is perfect, I have a no shoe policy too and this is just perfect but I know some will still wear their shoes
So cute!
Ilove colour
So cute!I love colors.
This is so incredibly fabulous. I love, love, love it! I made something yesterday, but since my job is to make kid’s crafts I don’t usually get time to make crafts for myself. Therefore, I didn’t have any vinyl letters, I don’t have a Cri-Cut machine, etc, so I made my own letters out of a painted grocery bag. Would love it if you stopped by to take a look.
And thank you for the invite to join your fan page, I’m definitely a fan.
I love this idea! We rarely have guests over, but when we
do..they always remove their shoes. I’d like it just because
it’s cute and I want to take a picture of my children’s feet:)
Can you get the handle at home depot? How exactly did you find it? How much was it? Thanks! I LOVE the whole idea!

I feel awkward to say the people who often visit our home to say “Please remove your shoes” and come inside. I was thinking about awhile yesterday to sort out this constraint. Suddenly after seeing my son’s drawing occasionally I have got a perfect solution. He was drawing a man’s leg without any footwear with a statement “Thanks for comforting us by leaving your footwear outside the door”. I found this is a perfect solution and going to frame my son’s drawing to hang it on the outdoor wall. I would suggest this idea for those who often find difficulty in saying “please remove your shoes”.
I absolutely LOVE this idea! What a fabulous idea using a picture of your own children’s bare feet! I want to make this, but I have one big question for you… how/where do I find a “Vinyl Lady?” To be honest, I had never even heard of vinyl, well at least for crafting, before reading this post so I don’t own a machine. I saw you posted an online place but I’m wondering if there are any stores such as Michael’s, Joann’s or something like that where I can simply walk in, order and come home with the vinyl to complete my project right away. Thanks so much for all that you do and I’d appreciate any suggestions/advice you can give!
Thanks!
Colleen
So cute!!! I searched forever to find something to tactfully say the same thing… I finally ended up with a sign that says “Please Remove Shoes, Pants Optional”. Most people get a little laugh out of it and it makes my point while being funny at the same time.
I like the saying “please be sweet wear stocking feet!” I think I’ll put that on mine
Is there a place where you can actually dowload the picture of the feet. It is absolutely georgous!
Thankyou
Hi Robyn Those chunky feet are my squishy kidos and I have the rights to the kids, but not the pictures. I know I wish I could give it out!
This link for the kit is no longer working – do you know where the handles can be purchased? Thanks!
I’ve really been wanting to do this and when I saw the kit I was SO EXCITED! But the link isn’t working
Where can we get this? Or can we pay a crafty lady to make one? You guys should have an Etsy store for us uncrafty people!!
Oh they are super easy to make. Promise:)
hey i just love this idea! me and my mom looked at this and thought it was just perfect! its sooo cute and i could totally make it:) my mom was just wondering if my some how you could send that picture to us! its just perfect and we dont think we can take one like it.. please send it to us!
thank you
I would love to do this, your photo is fantastic. Is it available for purchase?
