How do they know when I put my baby to sleep?

Please Knock Baby Is Sleeping Sign

I  have been trying for the last hour to get the baby to sleep…

He’s finally is out…

DING. DONG.

!

After having babies I have wanted to disconnect my door bell many times!

How do people know when I put the baby down?

How do they know when to ring the door bell within 5 minutes of my baby falling asleep?

SO here is a solution that has worked…not to mention my entire neighborhood has one because I give this as a baby gift now! (and it doesn’t cost a lot to make!!!:)

I should have done this with baby number 1!

Please Knock Baby is Sleeping Sign Tutorial

I used scrap wood.  All different kinds, but they are all about 6×6 give or take an inch.

Choose paper.  10 steps to perfect modpodging if you need it:)

Cut and apply Vinyl.  ‘Please Knock…Baby is Sleeping’

Use any font you like.  If you need a little vinyl 101 check out the post.

If you need a vinyl lady click here.

If you need just vinyl click here

and if you want to become a vinyl lady:) and get a cutter WAIT…until Wednesday.

We have a

HUGE

BIG

Monstrous

announcement and you’ll want in!

please knock baby is sleeping Drill a hole in the top corners and stick wire through.  This is the wire that I use for all my projects.  It’s nice using stuff that I already have.  The wire just needs to be wire.  Nothing fancy.  I got mine at Lowe’s for $7 a spool and it lasts a long while!

Twist

Stain edges, add ribbon, and make in bulk because you know your friend is going to steal yours when she sees it!

I also made one that said ‘Please Knock…Mama is Sleeping’ for a prego friend!

The sign helps a TON!  I love it.  The only one that can’t figure it out though is my UPS man.  The neighbor kids know to knock…I wonder why he can’t?

Okay, on with the fun part…the first 5 people who leave a comment will win the vinyl for ‘Please Knock Baby is Sleeping’ sign.

Woot Woot Free Stuff…Love it!

Looks great! Did something similar (not nearly as creative) with our kids. Then again, we don’t get that much door traffic as we live out in the country. I love the vinyl though. You may convince me to try it yet. :-)

I totally hear you on the doorbell thing! After my 1st was born I covered up the ringer with a “Baby Sleeping” Sticker. People still pushed it! Then I got smart & disconnected it. This sign is super cute. I totally love it! And I love that I feel a little less wacky about the whole “don’t ring my doorbell!!” thing. :-)

  28. Amanda says:

Yes way better than my piece of notebook paper and scotch tape..LOL!!

  29. Nicole says:

Love this idea!! I needed one of these years ago. I ended up just taping a sign on the door but that still didn’t work so eventually we did disconnect doorbell. lol Very pretty!!

  47. Beckie says:

I sooo need one of these. The neighbor boys ring the doorbell daily to ask if they can play on the trampoline…have any leftover cut out? I stumbled you like a good girl ;-)

  49. tammylee says:

I think that if i were to make one of these it would read “Baby is Sleeping & I am too….GO AWAY!” LOL

  50. teresa says:

wonderful idea….wish I had thought of that 15 years ago when I had small one.
    Thanks for sharing.

  51. Natalie Johnson says:

This is the cutest and most polite way to keep your baby sleeping. I always appreciate it when I see things like this because I’m a mom and can appreciate the accomplishment it is to get your little one down for a nap.–Those are treasured moments!

On another note, I think a permanent PLEASE KNOCK sign would be a great addition to my porch. My doorbell is rarely heard (maybe I’m going deaf?) and I usually don’t get to the door until someone knocks, anyway. ~Mark that one on my priority craft list!

  52. ashlee says:

These are just GREAT I wish I’d had one when my 4 babies were little. If I ever have another one I’ll have to make it (two sided for the mama sleeging one too!

the baby signs – are the cutest….. I bet ones imagination could really go from here… I watch my grandkids and yup.. as soon as baby is asleep.. here comes neighborhood kids. :)

  56. April says:

So cute. What font did you use and can i create this is i go buy the vinyl at Michael’s or JoAnn’s Fabrics? I don’t have a clue on how to use or print on Vinyl. Is that something i can print on my computer?

  57. Vicki says:

The fonts are perfect! May I ask what they are?

  58. Jane says:

Hi There!!! Could I pay you to make one for me???

  59. Shannon Spath says:

Your font choice is perfect! What fonts did you use?

  60. Angie says:

So after seeing several of these cute ideas on your site, I bought a silhouette. I’m wondering which fonts you used to create this sign? The fonts that come with the software just don’t look as cute.

    Thanks!

  61. jordan.ashleym says:

I was wondering… I love all of your crafts, but how do you make your scrapbook paper look ripped? I would be afraid if I actually ripped the paper, it would totally mess up. Thanks for all the great ideas!

  62. Ruby1977 says:

How do you make the edges looked “burned”/singed like they do in these signs? It makes it look even more rustic and I love it.

  63. Irma says:

Oh my god these are gorgeous!!! I would love to buy one in blue please let me know if that would be possible.

  64. SARAH HALLENIUS says:

I made something similar when my son was an infant. I too still get the UPS man and sometimes the FEDEX guy ringing the dang bell..
Love that you made it hard wood… Mine was just laminated piece of paper.

  65. Sarah says:

I suggest hanging it OVER the door bell :) That way the UPS guy doesn’t ring the bell before reading it

  66. Gunda says:

I just ordered a Silhouette SD and vinyl! I can’t wait to begin! What size of fonts did you use on this sign?

  67. Gunda Mattys says:

I have a modpodge question to do with these signs. Do you apply a thin layer of modpodge over the top of the paper to seal it? Is this necessary? We get heavy rain here on occasion and my sign on my front door got wet, it didn’t get ruined, it only made the distressed ink run a little (which made it look cooler). I have now switched to decking stain to avoid any future problems. But, it would be really nice if I didn’t have to do modpodge on top of the paper to protect if from rain.

Thanks for all your help! The business is starting to take off, slowly, but still taking off :)

    Gunda Jarvis Mattys

  68. Ashley says:

Where do you get all this scrap wood? I have the hardest time finding scrap wood and wood blocks!

  69. Debbie Cash says:

I LOVE this idea. I care for small children in my home. As soon as naptime comes around, someone comes to the door!!!!! This sign would be very helpful. Now, what can we do about the phone??????????

  70. Kim Adams says:

    LOVE IT!!!!

  71. Alex says:

Can I just buy one from you?

  72. Brittany says:

LOVE LOVE this idea! I just made a personalized version for a friend’s upcoming baby shower. Quick question though, what kind of wire is it that you use? I have scoured Lowe’s and have not been able to find anything similar. Thanks for the great post :)
