Inbox tutorial…kind of

I made this last year for one of the craft groups that I had at my house!  Craft group rocked:)  I didn’t take any pictures along the way, but I will explain the measurements and the ‘how to’s’.  This was such a fun project to do.  Not only did it turn out very chic, but it is super functional and leaves the paper mess off the table, desk,{{floor}}!!

1.  Use a 1×8 pine board.  Cut it 24 inches (or have the hardware store do it for you).

2.  If you have access to a router.  I used a plain router for the line at the top.  It is one inch down.

3.  Paint the board your favorite…well the color that will look best with your decor.

4.  Call your local metal shop and ask them to get you the mail slots. (They were only a couple bucks per slot)

The measurements are:

Back: 6 inches

Bottom: 2 1/4 inch

Front: 4 inches

Width: 6 inches

(Hint: See if they can fold back the front lip so it won’t have a sharp edge.  If they can’t do that just sand down the corners)

mail-1

5.  After you get the metal.  Pre-drill a hole in the top corners.

6.  Place the metal mail holders on your dried board and place about 1 inch apart.

7.  Drill the metal to the board with whatever size screw you have available:)

8.  Drill two holes in the top of the board to hold your handle.  If you need handles contact mytalkingwalls.  She has them!

9.  The Vinyl sizes:

mail:  2×3

inbox: 4×2 1/4

outbox: 5×2 1/2

10.  Admire as you get all the mail off your table!

Another lady wanted ‘coupons’ instead of outbox.  She kept all her coupons in the slot!  You can customize it to whatever you need…and save a ton of $$$ doing it on your own!

You can also mod podge the metal in chic paper!

  1. LOVE this idea! Where did you get the cute black metal decorative holder that has the wood hanging from it?

I’m just curious where you ordered your metal. I just called a local metal shop in Lehi, UT and they said they don’t’ fabricate? So I’m just not sure how to obtain the metal pieces!

  4. Such a good idea and I love how it’s “thin” so it can fit in any skinny spot or fit just right on a wall so it doesn’t take up the whole wall! Great idea!

My FIL made this for me and I got my handles from Mytalkingwalls. My only concern is that the ribbon will hold. What did you use to hang it? Is it just a black nail?

    Thanks!
