How to Set Achievable Goals…
January 3, 2011 by Caley
I can’t believe 2010 has come and gone already! Hope you all had a wonderful year and holiday season!
I don’t know about you, but it feels like the days, months, and years are flying by faster than before. I’ve been thinking about this a lot this holiday season, and I really want to make 2011 count. I don’t want to be overly ambitious and set unrealistic goals then fail miserably, so I did some research on how to make goals that I’ll actually achieve and feel better about myself. Since we’re all in this together, I wanted to share…
1. Brainstorm. Write down EVERYTHING you want to work on. As you finish the list, reread the items and cross off the ones that seem a little too ambitious. Don’t scribble them out, just a single line. That way you can see them at a later time and work on them.
Also, be positive about yourself. We are our own worst enemy…but as we think positive about ourselves, we’ll have a positive outcome. [Example: I don't want to be lazy instead: I want to be more active throughout the day.]
2. Categorize. Last year my husband and I did this with our goals and it made such a difference. We broke them down into categories by topic: Personal, Physical, Spiritual, Financial, Social, etc…This way we were able to see how we were improving in specific aspects of our lives.
[HINT: the more specific the goal, the better. You get to cross off more and you'll feel accomplished. Believe me, I write down EVERYTHING these days...haha].
3. Prioritize. Take your categorized goals and list them in order of importance. This way you will have a starting point for your journey. Some goals may never end such as: “spend more time with my family.” That’s ok. List it first [as it probably is one of your most important] and highlight it in a way that you see it as you review your goals. You can mentally check yourself throughout the year and add more specific goals pertaining to that goal day-by-day.
4. Rewards. Don’t forget this part! It is the best part after all…Depending on your goal, you will probably want to make different rewards. You might want a daily reward if you finish all your tasks on time [such as dessert at dinner]. Last year on my weight loss journey I made benchmark goals. For every 5 pounds I lost, I got to buy an article of clothing. It was one of the things that kept me going when I wanted to give up.
Most of all…do the things that are the most important to YOU! Don’t write down what others expect of you, do what makes you happy! And remember, we’re all in this together so please share any other tips or ideas that have helped you meet your resolutions!

Great post and thanks for the forms.
Very nice — thank you for making this simple and lovely to look at!
Hi ladies, thank you for the great ideas and for the motivating downloads! It’s been a long day, so I was looking at your logo while browsing on my phone and thought what is that in the end part of the logo an eagle? Hmmm, no it was the “?” in the circle, but if you look at it ling enough you can see the eagle and the question mark disappears! Thought I would share, hope you understand what I meant:0) blessings, shannon

I can’t open the link, it doesn’t download. Please help.
These are awesome ideas! I found that I am so much more productive if I read over my goals ALOT! Everyday actually! Soo much easier to stay focused!
PS Very clever goal forms LOVE them!!
I have a suggestion! I get overwhelmed if I try to do too many daily goals, so I incorporate big ones that can be checked off. For example, “work out every day” is kind of a hard one to keep track of and to accomplish. Instead try, ” I will complete a 10 k race in June and one in September” that way, you sign up for them as soon as you can and plan your workouts accordingly. Then you have a big goal to check off and it has an end.
Awesome, love the printables! Thank you!
All I get is some sort of jibberish coding when I click on the link. What am I doing wrong?

Great tips Caley;) Many of us understand that it is very crucial to goals for our life/business. But what most of us don’t realize is how to set goals in a way that they can be achieved. We should be realistic and honest to have a clear set of goals. All the best.
