Take it away!

I find myself always looking for different styles of pants to wear besides my traditional jeans (or leggings, I’m all about the leggings.) I saw a picture on facebook of my sister in these exact same high-waisted pants and I called her right away because I HAD to have them. She laughed at me and said she posted it as a joke and thought the pants were silly. Being her older sister, I had to prove her wrong. I bought these high-waisted pants and showed her different ways to make them cute and stylish. That’s what I want to share with you today! I have two looks for you. The first one is is great for during the day and the other for a date night.
For our day-time look I wanted something that was casual and comfy.
I put on a simple striped shirt, solid cardigan, and flats.
Anything that is solid can be dressed up with pattern which is why I chose a striped shirt.
Floral, polka dots, lace, etc. would work great!
These particular high-waisted pants have an extra ruffle, making them even higher-waisted.
I broke that up with a thin brown belt.
And…. for our date night look…. drum roll please, I wanted something casual and comfy!
Wait a minute….
That’s the beauty of these pants! They can be dressed up by simply adding height!
I chose a loser shirt to cover the extra ruffle above the belt and threw on my wedges.
They may be tall, but they are com-for-ta-ble.
This shirt is also plain, but a little detail can be as dressy as a button-up blouse.
In case you were wondering, (and I know you were) my sister was converted.
Did I convince you? Would you wear high-waisted pants?
{We’re linking up to these parties!}
Quick heads up…a selection of aDORable little girl swimsuits for 9.99 over on Zulily posted just this morning – hurry cause these usually sell out fast!

  1. I like the waist, but they look kinda loose in the crotch… I dunno if that’s the fashion and I’m just out-of-date though!

    • darlene says:

NO! you are not out-of-date. no one likes a baggy crotch.. but as you noticed these pants are a bit loser in that area. that is just the look of these particular pants. you can get high-waisted pants without the excess material below the belt :)

  2. Rachel says:

Yes, but where can we get those pants. I love both looks! And the wedges also!

    • darlene says:

i got these pants at papaya for around $20! i got them last july, and i’m not entirely sure if they’re still there. BUT, i’m sure once spring rolls around they will start pulling them back out :)

  3. Alison says:

Ha…I love this look. I like the belt with it too. I’d wear them:)
Thanks for the fun post and you look amazing!!

  4. Cristi Dame says:

Thanks Darlene!- I love the idea of trying new things! I bet these would make my short legs look like they have some length to them by adding some fabric to the waist!

  5. Bobbi says:

These look WAY more comfy than those low rise pants that I’m always seeing. I love how you added a chic and modern twist to them. I know I would give them a try!

  6. Alysha says:

I love high-waisted pants. They’re way more comfortable than having to pull up my pants all the time. ;) Thanks for the tips on ways to wear them!

  7. Caley says:

LOVE these! I’m all about high waisted pants. But one question, do cropped pants make short people look even shorter? At what length do you suggest they hit on the leg? {Also, I’m in love with your beautiful red hair! Makes me want to go dye mine right now!} ;)

    • darlene says:

thank you for the sweet hair comment! i truly don’t know the facts with where the pant hits to make your legs look longer (that’d be great for a future post though!) throw on some heels and the problem is fixed :) i would suggest to have these hit two-three inches above the ankle.

  8. Shelley says:

WECLOME WELCOME!! So cute. I’m sick of my rear hanging out from all these “low rise” pants. I’m going to keep my eye open for the perfect pair of high waisters. Thanks.

  9. Amy says:

Love the pants! Especially the way you paired them with those wedges and flowy top with the back buttons. The nautical feel of the first pictures are lovely.

  10. Jamie says:

I would so wear either of these looks, of course they wouldn’t look nearly as cute on me. Maybe when I reach my goal. Then I am so on the hunt for some highwaisted cute pants and a flowy top like that! I already have the shoes…they are comfy and fab!

  11. suz says:

Where oh where did you get that fab top and those wedges? They rock! Simply adorable!

  12. Taylor says:

Um can I PLEASE have everything from that second outfit? I’d love to know where you got everything, especially those shoes! I die!

  13. vikki says:

Of course as a woman of the mom jeans era, I have worn high waist pants and still like them.

  14. Saz says:

Forget the high-waisted pants (which IS a great look) – I can’t stop looking at you hair. It’s beautiful!

  15. Wearing a high-waisted pants can now be a trend. By simply wearing the right tops and a shoes will look fashionable and stylish. Thanks for giving tips.

  16. Rosemary says:

I hope you’re right about high wasted pants coming back as my daughter’s, 30 and 35, accuse me of wearing “mommy pants” because I don’t feel comfortable wearing pants below my navel. I think it comes from habit, but I also don’t like my midriff showing because most of the time it’s also uncomfortable (sometimes drafty).

  17. Joyce says:

    Hello,
I love your blog! Just wanted to say bring on the high-waisted
pants!!! I was mooned twice this weekend with the low-waisted ones, a male in Taco Bell and a female at church – yikes!!! Can’t these folks feel the breeze? It’s time for a fashion change! Thanks for letting me vent…. :-)

  18. elizabeth says:
