Shelley is one of the three founding editors of How Does She. She’s a spunky wife & mother of three, an interior design guru, and a party throwing queen. She loves cooking for crowds, eating good food, and dressing up like a girly girl. Shelley may need a 'pintervention' soon, as she is seriously addicted to pinterest.
The thought does count! Please know that teachers are more than our classrooms. We have a little bit of home life, interest outside of school and a whole lot of gratitude.
Sticky notes, notepads, pens all come from our central office. Just like anyone else teacher pick up marketing gadgets. Things with apples, tote bags, pens, and coffee mugs are very common items.
Honestly, a heartfelt note to let us know if we are making a difference with your child would be a keepsake. It sounds corny and many of us would not admit it, but it is so very true.
I have a friend who is a middle school teacher who has said she receives more lotion, candles & mugs than she can ever use & each year she ends up inviting friends to take them. She said the same as the person above did – that a heart felt note from your child especially is more meaningful than anything else. I personally still like to give a gift so I get gift certificates for local stores, restaurants or coffee shops as well as a box of tissues & sanitizing wipes – with the budgets being cut in our schools those are items teachers can use in the classroom.

As a teacher I can say that the things we really don’t need are:
Anything with apples
Monogrammed bags
Notepads
Sticky notes
What ever happened to it’s the thought that counts…really sad.
