Downy Touch of Comfort – Quilts for Kids
May 9, 2012 by Shelley
Every once in a while, I am deeply touched by the sincere efforts of the people in this world. This just so happens to be one of those times. Have you heard of Downy’s Touch Of Comfort campaign? Get ready to feel some “warm fuzzies”.
Each year, millions of children in the United States are hospitalized and must confront the challenges of overcoming illness while staying in unfamiliar hospital environments. Did you know they can’t bring their “lovies” from home for comfort? Downy recognizes the importance of bringing softness and comfort to those who need it most, so Downy has partnered with Quilts for Kids to create a beautiful program called Downy Touch of Comfort.
Downy Touch of Comfort is supported by the generous involvement of consumers through both the creation of quilts and direct donations to Quilts for Kids. To date, they have delivered over 10,000 quilts and hope to continue to increase this number. This is where you come in. They need handmade quilts. The best part: they provide EASY, SMALL, and FREE quilt kits, sent to you directly by Quilts for Kids.
I just received my free quilt kit, and it’s simple enough that I think I can even do it. Those are some big words from a girl who only sews squares (burp clothes, baby blankets, and bean bags).
In every kit, you personalize the quilt by adding a patch with your name. I can’t wait to sign this label and sew it to the HowDoesShe quilt. I only wish I could see whose little hands it will comfort.
Next month, I will be doing a post showing the final quilt, made from the kit we received. We can’t wait to send it off for Downy’s Touch of Comfort program. Will you join me? You can request your FREE quilt kit here. Simply make it, send it back, and make a little someone very, very comfy.

YAY! I’m soo Going to do this! Thanks for posting this.
My son received a quilt from quilt for kids when he had surgery at 7 weeks old. I requested a kit and got that same one you did. I am getting ready to ship it now!
Aww. I love hearing how this blessed your life and how you are giving back. Thank you! XOXO.
Love this idea!! Sent off my request, hoping that I will also be able to understand the directions!!
Thanks for posting this! I just requested my kit and they shipped it this morning. Can’t wait to get started on it! =)
Thanks for sharing this opportunity to serve! I’m a Faith in God for Girls/Activity Days leader (girls group for ages 8-11 at church) and I can’t wait to start working on a few of these quilts with my girls and their mothers!
I’ve just submitted a request to receive one of these quilts! It said it could take 1-2 weeks to ship. In the meantime, does anybody have the final quilt dimensions so that I can start making extra to send with? I’d like to get started with my own stash ASAP! It would be nice to make them uniform in size. Thanks!
Let me find out! Stay tuned…
Hey Stacy
the quilt size is: 38-40 wide X 45-46 long
this idea sounds very simlar to “Project Linus” which also makes quilts & blankets for newborns & children at area hospitals.
I am going to order a kit too!
