So, What Was in the EnveLOpe?

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS!

Over at Dollar Store Crafts , Heather does a secret envelope ‘swap.’   She sends out 10 envelopes of random stuff to readers who apply.  The readers take and make something from the ‘secret’ envelope.  I emailed her, but I was a day late… or maybe two!  I missed out on the mass mail out, BUTTTTT she emailed me and asked if I wanted to swap with her.  I’d send her stuff and she’d send me something.  Wahoo…I love getting stuff in the mail that has my name on it and no bills attached!  I was game.  It was kinda like  a mini Christmas!  The suspense, the unwrapping…okay I know it’s a little over board, but I WAS excited!

So, what was in the envelope???

Stuff…and lots of it.  I didn’t know so much could fit in a flat rate envelope!

Boxes, buttons, zippers, well you can see…

dollar Store crafts

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS! We pulled it all out to see what we could make.  We are not master sewers so we thought zippers and the fabric were out.  Maybe the buttons too!  What are you crafting in your mind?  What to do with all those zippers?  O ya and our theme for the crafts was Mother’s Day Presents!

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS! We decided to use this, this, this, and don’t forget that!  Almost all things sewing!  We are ‘pushing’ our skills:)

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS! Just look at him looking back at us.  He IS scoffing at us.    Just you wait…we will make you beautiful.

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS! We were sitting at our weekly meeting…(that goes until 2am).  What…we have a lot to talk about:)  Shelley grabbed the zipper and started cutting it apart!  She hot glued it to the head band which can be found at the Dollar Store…for a buck!  And there is even 6 {{six}} in one pack!!!

She started tying knots in the owl fabric and then cutting the knots off.  She had about 20 little knots.  The owl…not so cute, but the colors were perfect!

She hot glued the knots to the headband…off centered.

Super cute and super easy to make.  Now go look in your sewing buckets and find fabric and zippers and get to work!

Hey and there is no sewing involved.  Only a little glue!

The next project was even simpler…

The button…a simple huge button used as a necklace or bracelet.  From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS!

A ribbon strung through a cream large button.

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS!

The button as a bracelet.  Missy did this one.  She strung the ribbon through the button and then pulled it up through the center and tied a big knot.  Leaving longer tied ends hanging.  Almost, I Love Lucy ‘ish’  I do love Lucy!

From Dollar Store Mish Mash to THIS!

A child could easily make this and give to mom!  Happy Mother’s Day

You want to know what I sent Heather?  Vinyl…you know me so well.

Take a look…I also added some clear bags into the mix.  I wonder what she’ll whip up with this?

Thanks Heather for the mysterious envelope!

I am heading over to see yours!

Mothers Day huh… Well, here is what I see in it. A perfect Mothers Day card delivery system. Make a doll out of the clothes pins with a fun stack of buttons for a hat. Maybe even make a dress or pants out of the owl fabric. I would use the orange fabric as a parachute and connect it to the doll either by string or those nifty zippers. I might even use the head band to help keep the parachute open. Then make a card with some of the other items, just because they are there and buttons always make neat cards. The doll straddles the card and there you have it. Run into the room yelling bombs away and toss the little trooper at Mom! I am sure she would love it. :-)

I saw this project yesterday and wanted to come back to say I’ve got to make a trip to the $ store to pick some fun goodies for the kids like this to make up kits for the summer. This will be a great way to keep them busy when the weather is rainy and they start yelling out, “I’m bored.” Love the headband.

  1. [...] I made this memo board using materials I got in my secret stash swap with Alison from How Does She? She sent the vinyl slogan that says "Reasons We Love You!" and I thought it was a perfect jumping off point for a Mother's Day gift for my mom. The paper lace embellishments, the background paper, and the brown ribbon also came in her care package. If you don't have access to custom vinyl for this project, never fear! You can print or write the phrase on the paper underneath the glass, and it will work just as well! [update: see what I sent Alison and what she made with it] [...]

  2. [...] I used these cute brads that I got in my swap package from Alison to connect this banner. They are so cute!! Love! Such a fun use for cute scrapbooking [...]

  3. [...] when I swapped envelopes with Alison at How Does She?? She made this cute headband by covering a dollar store metal headband with part of a zipper, and then making these pretty [...]
