Dancing Deer

Oh my.

Hold on to your seats.

Seriously.

I am finding it very hard NOT to jump around right now. Our guest poster is someone I’ve had a blog crush on for a long, long time. I know, I’m a little creepy, but in the best way :) I’d like to introduce you to none other than JOEL from Made By Joel. SQUEE!! Okay, this guy has the most amazing creative mind and I was stoked that he was willing to share his genius with us with a brand new project just for us HowDoesShe ladies! Let’s get a little peek at what he’ll be teaching us….

Teach on, Joel, teach on….

Hi HowDoesShe Gals! Here is a funny little dancing deer toy that’s made with paper, string, and brads. It’s simple to make and watching it dance and jump around is very entertaining.

Materials:

- paper (I used cardstock and construction paper)
- strip of cardboard (for the handle)
- string
- tape
- brads (can be found at paper or craft stores)
- small hole punch (optional, for making hole for the brads)
- scissors
- pen

Instructions:

1 – Cut out the paper body and leg pieces using the template or you own design.

2 – Make holes for the brads using a small hole punch or craft knife.

3 – Cut a 12″ length of string and tie one end to a strip of cardboard, and tape the other end onto the body of the deer.

4 – Use a pen to make eye and any other decorations you’d like.

5 – Now insert the brads to attach the leg pieces. When you bend the back of the brads, don’t press them too tightly onto the paper. (This will allow the legs to move freely.)

6 – Now start dancing!

What a great post. I remember making a marble maze from a cereal box when I was younger…totally forgot about that….great project for this weekend (especially since my kids just ate up the last of the Apple Jacks this morning!).

    Thanks!

Two things come to mind when I read this post. One, paper art is so predominant in Denmark – you see beautifuly cut designs ( Danish paper cut-outs and mobiles) hanging in the windows – and it is a marvelous art. Two, kids usually like simple, inexpensive toys that they can help make. This is a wonderful post.

These are such great ideas! The deer would be perfect for a trip in the car to grandma’s house! The marble run would be a great gift for Christmas on a tight budget! Thanks for the inspiration.
