It’s here, it’s here, it’s FINALLY here. The new Silhouette Cameo is HERE! The Cameo is the newest Silhouette machine. The best part about the new cutter is that it is 12″x12″. Perfect for your bigger projects!! Whoo hoo! It is available starting this week, just in time for holiday projects and gifts! You KNOW we are giving one away,… so read on for all the juicy details. First up, what I did once I got my hands on the new Silhouette Cameo.
The Customized Birthday Shirt
I love making birthday’s special. It is so fun to have a day all to yourself and have it all about you! What better way to start the day then opening your very own birthday shirt! Kids are always so proud of how big they are getting. Displaying their new age all day long is sure to put a smile on their face
You are going to need:
Your Silhouette
Vinyl
Fabric Paint
Sponge Brush
Card Stock or Waxed Paper
Plain T-shirt
Start out by measuring how large you want the number to appear on the shirt. I wanted mine to be about 5 inches wide by 6 inches tall (give or take). Using the Silhouette software, choose a font you like and plug in the age of your child! Measure it and re-size it to the dimensions you want. Load your vinyl and let the machine go to work!
I chose this free font: Carnival by Rick Mueller
Cut a square around your design, leave a decent sized border since you are using it as a stencil. Think in the “negative”, you are going to peal away the vinyl where you want the paint to appear.
Press the sticky paper over the top and smooth out any bubbles. Then peal the back off the vinyl which will expose it’s sticky side.
Place the design on the front of the shirt and press it down. Gently peal the white paper off leaving the vinyl stencil on the shirt.
Make sure all the edges are smoothed down around the area you will be painting. Grab the paint and a sponge brush. Place a piece of card stock or waxed paper inside the shirt so the paint won’t bleed through to the back.
Squirt paint onto the sponge brush in small amounts. Dab the paint (do not brush it on) until the entire stencil is covered. You may want to use several layers of paint. I started at one end and by the time I had finished one coat it was dry enough to apply the second coat where I started.
Allow the paint to dry, following the directions for the fabric paint you choose. Gently peal the stencil off the shirt and be amazed at your perfect paint job!
Wrap it up and have it waiting first thing for that special birthday!
